Pastoral Epistles
Helping the Deceived Dec. 6
The following is excerpted from the Way of Life Commentary Series, Pastoral Epistles, www.wayoflife.org:
“But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all
men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will” (Titus 2:23-26).

T.D. JAKES SAYS HUG YOURSELF (Friday Church News Notes, December 2, 2022, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - T.D. Jakes, one of America’s most popular and influential preachers, is exhorting people to hug

themselves. On Nov. 6, 2022, he preached, “The courage you need to survive must come from within you. When it doesn’tcome from around you, it must come from within. ... [Say to yourself,] ‘I’ll encourage myself, I’m taking myself out to dinner. I’m gonna be my valentine. You’re not going to help me. I’m gonna be my own valentine.’ … If the kids don’t bring you no roses, get yourself some roses. If they don’t send you no card, get yourself a card. Encourage yourself! I want you to do something right now. I want you to throw your arms around yourself and hug yourself. I want you to rock from side to side and.. Read More
You Can’t Have Exactly the Pastor You Want Dec. 1
You will not have exactly the pastor that you want.
Think about it. If you had 100 church members, each one would have a different idea of what he or she wanted in a pastor.
God is the one who calls men to the ministry and to a certain church, and you have to accept the pastor that God gives you and be patient with him and try your very best not to compare him to other pastors. (Of course, I am not talking about biblically unqualified pastors or pastors who are leading the church contrary to God’s Word.)
You can say, “I wish my pastor would spend more time personally discipling his people like that other pastor does,” or, “I wish my pastor would spend more time..

Praying More Specifically Nov. 30
The Bible emphasizes the importance of praying for specific things.
I have been in countless prayer meetings in which the prayer is largely generalized. “Lord, bless our church. Bless our pastor. Bless all of the people who attend. Give us more visitors. Bless the gift and the giver. Bless those who couldn’t attend the services today. Bless us as we go our separate ways. Save the lost. Amen.” This is why so many people do not pray for more than a couple of minutes. This type of generalized praying is too shallow, too impassionate, and there is no way to know if God actually answers.
Paul taught us to pray for very specific things.
    - He prayed for people and churches by “making mention” of them, obviously by name. He said this of the church at Rome, of the church at Ephesus, the church at Philippi..

It has long been alleged by those who interpret prophecy allegorically that the pre-tribulation Rapture is a new doctrine and cannot, therefore, be true.
Gary DeMar, President American Vision, says: “A majority of prophecy writers and speakers teach that the church will be raptured before a future tribulational period. But did you know that prior to about 1830 no such doctrine existed. No one in all of church history ever taught pretribulational rapture” (cited from “Why Christians Will Suffer Great..

SCHOOL CHOICE GROWING IN U.S. (Friday Church News Notes, November 25, 2022, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - School choice is the only program that can have a significant impact in reducing the power of the mainstream public school system, and school choice is growing. The following is excerpted from Scott Jensen, American Federation for Children, June 28, 2022: “At the American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, we only count programs that 1) give parents enough assistance to actually make a different choice; and 2) provide parents with a variety of private school options.. The Coronation of the King of England Nov. 23
The following is from John Phillips’ commentary on Psalm 21:
Think of the way they crown an English king as an illustration of the crowning of the King of kings. After the king has been invested with the royal robe, after the orb has been delivered into his hands, after the ring has been placed on the fourth finger of his majesty’s right hand to symbolize the marriage of the king with his kingdom, after the scepter with the cross and the scepter with the dove have been delivered into the hands of the king—then they crown him. As soon as the crown is placed by the..

What About the New King James Version? Nov. 22
The NKJV is the best of the modern versions, since it is not based on the critical Greek text. I wish we could recommend it, because I have great sympathy with the plight of those who read English as a second language and have trouble with the antiquation of the King James. As missionaries in South Asia, we have worked closely with such people for many years and many personal friends fall into this category, and the difficulty they have with the King James is very real.

Yet I cannot recommend the NKJV for the following reasons. Note particularly point number five.

1. THE NEW KING JAMES VERSION (NKJV) IS A DECEPTION. The editors and translators of the NKJV claim that they are standing in the tradition of the men who originally produced the Authorized Version and who slightly revised it in the 18th century, that they are only updating outmoded language and that they remain firmly..      COP27 AND THE UNITED NATIONS’ GLOBAL CONTROL PROGRAM (Friday Church News Notes, November 18, 2022, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - The United Nations’ COP27 conference in Egypt, Nov. 6-18, is the latest major event in the global push for draconian steps to stop “man-made climate change.” COP stands for Conference for Parties, referring to the states that have signed the United Nations Convention on Climate Change. U.S. President Joe Biden and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will address the 40,000 attendees. Perhaps Putin will make the point that the wholesale destruction of the Ukraine is good for the climate. Man-made climate change is a modern myth which has been.. Read More

Charles Weigle's Conversion and Hymns Nov. 17
The biography of Charles Weigle can be found in the free eBook Life and Music of Charles Weigle at www.wayoflife.org.     Dr. Weigle was a Baptist evangelist and noted hymn writer of more than 1,000 hymns. He entered heaven's gates December 3, 1966 at age 95, from Chattanooga, Tennessee.
After he was called to be an evangelist, his wife came to him one day and said, “I’m leaving, Charlie. I don’t want to live the life you are living. I want to go the other way--to the bright lights.” Their only child, a daughter, left with her. That very night Charles saw them off on a train to the other side of the country. Five years passed before..

Seeker’s Evangelistic Bible Study Nov. 16

The Seeker’s Bible Study is an evangelistic Bible study.
It begins with a study of the gospel in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, dealing with the Bible, Christ, sin, Jesus’ atoning death, Jesus’ burial and bodily resurrection.
This is followed by practical studies on repentance and saving faith.
The last section answers the question, “When Is Jesus Coming?”
    The
Seeker’s Bible Study is designed especially to be used as a multi-week, one-on-one course. In our church, we assign a qualified believer to go through the course with every willing visitor and contact.
    The teacher is instructed..

What Does Google Know About Me? Nov. 15

The following is excerpted from “What Does Google Know about Me?” by Gabriel Weinberg, CEO and Founder of DuckDuckGo, March 24, 2020.
You may know that Google is tracking you, but most people don't realize the extent of it. Luckily, there are simple steps you can take to dramatically reduce Google's tracking.
But first, what exactly are they tracking? Unlike searching on DuckDuckGo, when you search on Google, they keep your search history forever. That means they know every search you’ve ever done on Google. That alone is pretty scary, but it’s just the shallow end of the very deep pool of data that they try to collect on people.
What most people don’t realize is that even if you don’t use any Google products directly, they’re still trying to discover as much as they can about you. Google trackers have been found on 75% of the top million websites. This means they're also trying to track most everywhere you go on the internet, trying to
