ELON MUSK PREDICTS AI WILL CREATE “UNIVERSAL HIGH INCOME” (Friday Church News Notes, December 26, 2025, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, speculated in a post on X this month that “there will be no poverty in the future and so no need to save money. There will be universal high income.” In May 2024, he said, “In a benign scenario, probably none of us will have a job. There will be universal high income--and not universal basic income--universal high income. There’ll be no shortage of goods or services. The question will really be one of meaning, of how--if a computer can do, and the robots can do everything better than you--does your life have meaning?” (“Musk predicts,” Fox Business, Dec. 17, 2025). Musk is the head of PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and X (formerly Twitter). His thinking reminds us that regardless of how intelligent and highly placed.. see full report

Charles Wesley’s Hymns for the Nativity of the Lord (December 1745) proclaim, in peerless poetry, the glories of Christ’s incarnation. The collection is not merely about a babe in the manger; it is about the magnificent mystery of God manifest in the flesh. This is the true message of Christmas. Hymns for the Nativity was very popular, going through about 25 printings in Wesley’s lifetime. It is available in various places online today.
The only well-known hymn that remains from this collection is “Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus,” which was hymn number X.

God Is Love

The following is excerpted from John Phillips’ commentary on Galatians:
Love! It is the sum and substance of the Christian life. It all began with love. Love flooded this sin-cursed planet even before Adam’s fateful fall. The Old Testament prophet first picks up and then puts down that great word from God: ‘Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee’ (Jer. 31:3). ...
The gospel begins on the same high note. Never have greater words been penned than these: ‘God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life’ ( John 3:16).

Politics is compromising, dirty business, at best, and we aren’t flag wavers for any political party. None of them are godly, to say the least. But truth in history is important.
The Republican Party was formed largely on an anti-slavery platform. It emerged in 1854 to combat the expansion of slavery into American territories and new states. The theme was “Free Soil, Free Labor, Free Men,” with “Free Soil” referring to granting western land to farmers.
The first Republican Party president was Abraham Lincoln, who led the Union’s war against the Southern Confederacy, a war that was not wholly about slavery, but slavery.. see full report

Horatius Bonar (1808-1889) was the most prominent and prolific Scottish hymn writer. He is called “the prince of Scottish hymn writers.”
Horatius, known by his friends as Horace, was born into a family of Scottish preachers. His grandfather John was a preacher, as were his father James, and his brothers Andrew Alexander and John James. Horatius’ son Horatius Ninian was also a preacher. The Bonars served a total of 364 years as ministers in the Church of Scotland.
Horatius graduated from the University of Edinburgh and was ordained in 1838 at age 30.
In 1843, he married Jane Catherine, who was in perfect sympathy with him in faith.. see full report
