BOTH PARTIES WANT A KING (Friday Church News Notes, July 4, 2025, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - America continues its steady march to totalitarianism. It began a long time ago, with the vast increase in federal bureaucracy during and after the Civil War, with the creation of a federal income tax, a national currency, a national banking system, the creation of the Department of Justice and the Department of Commerce and Labor. “They inserted the government into railroads, education, agriculture, immigration, the sciences, financial regulation [and] industry” (Roger Lowenstein, Ways and Means: Lincoln and His Cabinet and the Financing of the Civil War). Totalitarianism received a major push with President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal and a steady stream of ever newer deals, such as Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society. America has long been a socialist.. see full report

Bruce Metzger
As a student at Tennessee Temple in the 1970s, I was given zero information about the editors of the United Bible Societies Greek New Testament that we were required to use. These were Bruce Metzger, Matthew Black, Allen Wikgren, Carlo Martini, Kurt Aland, Barbara Aland, and Johannes Karavidopoulos.
I looked into these people for myself as a young missionary in the early 1980s and was amazed to find that Martini was a Roman Catholic cardinal and most of the others were theological modernists. I found, further, that the entire field of modern textual criticism was rife with unbelief from its inception. Modernists and Unitarians and modernist-influenced Evangelicals were the chief voices, with few.. see full report

I Love Israel - July 2
For a review of and refutation of Steven Anderson’s Marching to Zion see the free eBook What about Steven Anderson?
“Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name: If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever” (Jeremiah 31:35-36).
Israel has been the subject of false teaching and unbiblical thinking among professing Christians since the time of the church fathers, so called, and the invention of Replacement Theology and the subsequent sad history of persecution of Jews by professing Christians. These heresies were subsumed by the Roman Catholic Church and were part of the heretical baggage that was brought out of Rome by many.. see full report

A Mindset of Guarding the Eye-Gate - July 1
The following is excerpted from the new book/course The Pornographic Age and Victory in Christ, www.wayoflife.org --
God’s people must cut themselves off from major channels of temptation. They must practice strict separation, but there is no possibility of spiritual victory if the individual is not willing to guard the eyes. The strongest filtering system and the most diligent accountability program will not protect you if you don’t guard your eyes. Temptations are not limited to the internet; they are everywhere. Pornography walks the streets today!
Guarding the eyes is a primary biblical way of protection. “I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I THINK UPON A MAID” (Job 31:1). “I will.. see full report

A number of countries are ready to directly supply Iran with their own nuclear warheads” (“Russian.. see full report

Sorrow in the Christian Life - June 19
The following is excerpted from What Is the Emerging Church?, a free eBook which is available from Way of Life Literature, www.wayoflife.org.
The born again child of God can be very puzzled by the experience in sorrow when he thinks he should have only joy, but the Bible is very clear on this subject. There is sorrow in the genuine Christian life. Consider some examples:
- There is sorrow because of sin and our fallen condition. We live in “a body of death” (Ro. 7:24). We are subject to “the bondage of corruption” (Ro. 8:21). “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us” (1 Jo. 1:8). We have the “old man” (“that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man,” Eph. 4:22). We have “the flesh” (Ro. 13:14, “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof”). David described a severely sorrowful condition that came because of his sin. “When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day.. see full report

The Emerging Church: A Magnet for Rebels - June 18
The following is excerpted from What Is the Emerging Church?, a free eBook which is available from Way of Life Literature, www.wayoflife.org.
The emerging church is a magnet for those who have rejected the “old-fashioned” New Testament faith and who despise traditional Bible-believing churches, dogmatic biblical preaching, and biblical “judgmentalism” in regard to lifestyle choices.
Many of the books I have read by emerging leaders make this admission.
For example, in Blue Like Jazz Donald Miller tells how that he refused to be restricted by the teaching of traditional-type churches. He wanted to drink beer and watch raunchy movies and talk trashy and run around with atheists and other rebels. In discussing his involvement in church in his youth he says, “I wished I could have subscribed to aspects of Christianity but not the whole thing” (p. 30). He complains, “In order to believe Christianity, you either had to reduce enormous theological absurdities [i.e., Garden of Eden, universal flood] into children’s.. see full report

God’s Mercy and the Psalms - June 17
The following is excerpted from the Way of Life Bible Commentary Series, Psalms -
The Psalms celebrate God’s mercy, compassion, kindness, and longsuffering. These lovely characteristics are often mentioned together to emphasize this aspect of God’s character. It is in these terms that God’s love is expressed in the Psalms. These are the characteristics of God as Saviour, Father, Shepherd.
“But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth” (Ps. 86:15).
“The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy” (Ps. 103:8).
