The great benefits of the book are described in the introductory verses. The book is designed to give practical wisdom that enables the believer to please God and to relate properly to his fellow man in this world. This is worth more than all of this world’s riches.

The wisdom that Proverbs imparts is broken down in the opening verses into individual elements. These are intimately associated. In fact, they overlap and interlock. Wisdom and instruction and perception and understanding and justice and judgment and equity and subtlety and discretion and interpretation of dark sayings are points on the same diamond.

The wonderful things that can be obtained from Proverbs cannot be obtained in any school of higher learning in this world. These things come only from God through His Word by His Spirit.
