Starling Murmuration

Starling Murmuration

Murmuration describes the swarming behavior of a flock of European starlings. They fly in groups of hundreds and even thousands, maneuvering and swirling, twisting and turning across the sky in perfect synch as if putting on an aerobatic display. I have stopped my automobile on two occasions to watch them.

Grainger Hunt of the Peregrine Fund describes a murmuration as follows:

A dazzling cloud, swirling, pulsating, drawing together to the thinnest of waists, then wildly twisting in pulses of enlargement and diminution, a fluid choreography of funnels, ribbons, and hourglasses, spills and mixing, ever in motion. Dense in one moment, diffuse in the next” (“In Murmurations, Starlings Have a Darwinian Dance Partner,” Living Bird magazine, Jan. 15, 2013).

That’s a great description of a murmuration, but sadly, the author is blinded to the testimony of the display by his evolutionary bias.

The testimony of a murmuration is that there is an all-powerful, all-intelligent, very interesting God!

Murmuration is so amazing that Darwinists become almost beside themselves trying to figure it out by evolutionary terms.

Hunt says the synchronized flock’s exquisite coordination is “as if orchestrated, as if ordered by an unseen, absurdly creative hand.”

Indeed, why not stop right there? When we are observing a murmuration of starlings, we are observing intelligence upon intelligence, which is obvious evidence of a Creator. There is the intelligence of the DNA that makes up the bird and the intelligence of the bird’s behaviour, the intelligence that enables it to live and survive and fly (I repeat, fly!) and reproduce itself and a thousand other things.

And let’s not forget the intelligence of the creature observing and analyzing the murmuration.

As far as I am concerned, to believe that such things blindly evolved is nonsense. Nonsense!

If a man wants to look at “nature” and see blind evolution at work, that is his business, but as for me, I see the hand of God everywhere.

And I want to know that God, and I am thankful that He has revealed Himself, not only in creation but in Scripture, and that revelation says,

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:16-18).

Sharing Policy: Much of our material is available for free, such as the hundreds of articles at the Way of Life web site. Other items we sell to help fund our expensive literature and foreign church planting ministries. Way of Life's content falls into two categories: sharable and non-sharable. Things that we encourage you to share include the audio sermons, O Timothy magazine, FBIS articles, and the free eVideos and free eBooks. You are welcome to make copies of these at your own expense and share them with friends and family. You may also post parts of reports and/or entire reports to websites, blogs, etc as long as you give proper credit (citation). A link to the original report is very much appreciated as the reports are frequently updated and/or expanded. Things we do not want copied and distributed are "Store" items like the Fundamental Baptist Digital Library, print editions of our books, electronic editions of the books that we sell, the videos that we sell, etc. The items have taken years to produce at enormous expense in time and money, and we use the income from sales to help fund the ministry. We trust that your Christian honesty will preserve the integrity of this policy. "For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward" (1 Timothy 5:18). Questions? support@wayoflife.org
