QUALIFIED FOR CIVIL LIBERTY (Friday Church News Notes, June 5, 2026, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - The following is excerpted from Edmund Burke, Letter to a Member of the National Assembly, 1791: “Men are qualified for civil liberty in exact proportion to their disposition to put moral chains upon their own appetites,--in proportion as their love to justice is above their rapacity,--in proportion as their soundness and sobriety of understanding is above their vanity and presumption,--in proportion as they are more disposed to listen to the counsels of the wise and good, in preference to the flattery of knaves. Society cannot exist, unless a controlling power upon will and appetite be placed somewhere; and the less of it there is within, the more there must be without. It is ordained in the eternal constitution of things, that men of intemperate minds cannot be free. Their passions forge their fetters.”
FAMILY USING WAY OF LIFE MATERIALS (Friday Church News Notes, June 5, 2026, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - “My girls are reading really well now, so we have started to go through your Birds Eye View of the Bible for our family devotions, and they look up and read all the verses. We are making slow progress, as a lot of the stuff is hard for their little minds to understand, but it is so much fun to see them learn and be excited about it, and the younger ones who can’t read are learning and answering the questions too. My wife and I are starting to go back through Keeping the Kids again, as we need to always streamline our focus. It scares me to see so many kids grow up around us, from ‘good’ families and turn out to either go way off from the faith, or turn out to be just existing christians. ... what I mean is that they don’t have much character, not much enthusiasm for christian service, or work ethic or anything. Please pray for us as our children are our number one focus and we strive to lead them to turn out to be faithful servants of our Lord. I feel like such an unworthy person to be in charge of these little ones, but God has given me that responsibility. I really appreciate your ministry, and your materials have blessed our family so much. Thank you for your faithfulness, and we pray for you every day on the mission field.”
U.S. HOUSE SELECT SUBCOMMITTEE REPORT ON CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC (Friday Church News Notes, June 5, 2026, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - The following is excerpted from John West, Endowed by Our Creator: The Bible, Science, and the Battle for America’s Soul: “At the end of 2024, the US House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic issued a 557-page report. It was scathing. It faulted government science officials for spreading misinformation about the origins of COVID-19, exaggerating the power of COVID-19 vaccines, and employing ‘Undemocratic and Likely Unconstitutional Methods to Fight What It Deemed to Be Misinformation.’ The report also determined that ‘There Was No Quantitative Scientific Support for Six Feet of Social Distancing.’ and ‘The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Relied on Flawed Studies to Support the Issuing of Mask Mandates.’ Regarding the extended lockdowns imposed throughout America, the report concluded that ‘Unscientific COVID-19 Lockdowns Caused More Harm Than Good,’ itemizing their severe impacts on the economy, mental health, children, and young adults. When it came to vaccine mandates, the report concluded that they too ‘Were Not Supported by Science,’ and ‘Caused Massive Collateral Damage and Were Very Likely Counterproductive.’”
THOMAS JEFFERSON AND SLAVERY (Friday Church News Notes, June 5, 2026, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - “How could the man who wrote that ‘All men are created equal’ own slaves? This, in essence, is the question most persistently asked of those who write about Thomas Jefferson, and by all indications it is the thing that contemporary Americans find most vexing about him. ... The question carries a silent assumption that because he practiced slave holding, Jefferson must have somehow believed in it, and must therefore have been a hypocrite. My belief is that this way of asking the question ... is essentially backward, and reflects the pervasive PRESENTISM of our time. Consider, for example, how different the question appears when inverted and framed in more historical terms: How did a man who was born into a slave holding society, whose family and admired friends owned slaves, who inherited a fortune that was dependent on slaves and slave labor, decide at an early age that slavery was morally wrong and forcefully declare that it ought to be abolished? Though stating the same case, these are obviously different questions, focusing on different things, but one is framed in a historical context and the other ignores historical circumstances. The rephrased question reveals that what is truly remarkable is that Jefferson went against his society and his own self-interest to denounce slavery and urge its abolition” (Douglas Wilson, “Thomas Jefferson and the Character Issue,” The Atlantic Monthly, November 1992). THE LIVER (Friday Church News Notes, June 5, 2026, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - The following is from CreationMoments.com, April 20, 2026: “An adult human liver is about the size of a small football. It weighs about three pounds, making it the body’s largest internal organ. Tucked neatly beneath the ribs, your liver performs more than 500 different tasks. It is a vital link between your heart, lungs, and digestive system. Inside the liver is a bewildering array of microscopic veins in which each drop of blood is processed. Here, blood conditions are constantly monitored to make sure that its chemistry meets strict standards. If more of some substances are needed in the blood, they are supplied. Useless chemicals are broken down into useful chemicals. Your liver makes proteins, and corrects blood clotting factors. Your liver also sees to it that hormone balances are maintained and that poisons are neutralized. If substances are needed to fight an infection, your liver makes them and adds them to the bloodstream. Your liver also stores vitamins and minerals and prepares itself to provide your body with quick energy when you need it. In addition, the liver makes bile, which is essential for digestion. Structures like the liver have caused many evolutionists to abandon the idea that life is a result of millions of years of accidents. The liver is just too well-designed and integrated into the body to have been produced by purposelessness and mindlessness. As Scripture says, truly God has formed our inward parts!
