Satan has been effective in selling compromise to the older generation. "And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also." I want to be the faithful man to which those things are committed, but those that should be doing the committing are leaving what they were taught.
I have visited many churches in the local area and even further out and found mostly compromise and weakness. Not differences in application, but actual doctrinal problems. One old and revered Baptist Church we visited had a Methodist minister, who was visiting with his pastor wife, preaching that evening. Another is pushing for rock music in all parts of the service. One is hiring a West Coast man so he can be more "exciting" even though he knows of their error. Another stopped preaching and teaching on modesty and holiness and his women are tramps (posting immodest social media pictures, etc) and his men childish. Another has his wife swinging and swaying on stage like a nightclub singer.
These are not fringe churches. They are mainstream, independent Baptist, KJV, non-GARB, local ecclesiology churches that are run by men in their 60s and 70s who grew up in good churches. Ten years ago they would have been considered good and safe.
I am not saying this to complain or because I am discouraged. I want you to know the situation with the men who are supposed to be the pillars. This is the greatest prayer need right now, I believe. For every older preacher who is standing there are a dozen that are sliding. Pray these men will stand.
As I talk to Pastors my age in different areas of the country (ME, MN, NY, SC, FL), they all report the same thing. The really dangerous thing is that some of the men that are my age are so dismayed they no longer think they need the teaching of older men. That cannot end well.
Sharing Policy: Much of our material is available for free, such as the hundreds of articles at the Way of Life web site. Other items we sell to help fund our expensive literature and foreign church planting ministries. Way of Life's content falls into two categories: sharable and non-sharable. Things that we encourage you to share include the audio sermons, O Timothy magazine, FBIS articles, and the free eVideos and free eBooks. You are welcome to make copies of these at your own expense and share them with friends and family. You may also post parts of reports and/or entire reports to websites, blogs, etc as long as you give proper credit (citation). A link to the original report is very much appreciated as the reports are frequently updated and/or expanded. Things we do not want copied and distributed are "Store" items like the Fundamental Baptist Digital Library, print editions of our books, electronic editions of the books that we sell, the videos that we sell, etc. The items have taken years to produce at enormous expense in time and money, and we use the income from sales to help fund the ministry. We trust that your Christian honesty will preserve the integrity of this policy. "For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward" (1 Timothy 5:18). Questions? email@example.com
