Homosexuality

What Will Be Illegal When Homosexuality is Legal

zz_gavel_1:14
If homosexuality is fully legalized, meaning if homosexual activists are given every right they demand, citizens in western nations will be robbed of many liberties they have heretofore enjoyed. This is not a guess; it is a judgment based on current facts. The right to free speech and the right to the free exercise of religion, in particular, will be effectively destroyed.

When Homosexuality is Fully Legal, You Won't be Able to Say Anything That Might Appear Biased Against Homosexuality.

In 1997 Jo Ann Knight was fired by the Connecticut Department of Public Health after she counseled a homosexual couple from the Bible about salvation and about the necessity of repenting of sin. Knight’s job was to supervise the provision of medical services by Medicare agencies to home health care patients, and in that capacity she interviewed patients. The homosexuals filed a complaint with the Commission on Human Rights. A district court upheld Knight’s dismissal, claiming that her religious speech caused her clients distress and interfered with the performance of her duties.

In 2000 Evelyn Bodett was fired by CoxCom Cable for expressing her biblical views against homosexuality to a lesbian subordinate. They claimed that she was thereby “coercing and harassing” the lesbian contrary to company policy. The lesbian, Kelley Carson, had sought Bodett’s advice in regard to a recent breakup with her homosexual partner, and Bodett gave her biblical counsel that homosexuality is a sin. Carson complained about the matter to a supervisor. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Bodett’s religious discrimination suit.

In 2001 Richard Peterson was fired by Hewlett-Packard after he posted Bible verses condemning homosexuality. Peterson, who had worked for HP for nearly 21 years, posted the verses in response to the company’s diversity policy that requires acceptance of homosexuality. The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in 2004 that Peterson was not discriminated against because of his religious beliefs. Commenting on the case, Stephen Crampton, chief counsel for the American Family Association’s Center for Law & Policy, said: “The new rule in the workplace seems to be: The Bible is out; diversity is in” (“Using Caesar’s Sword,” AgapePress, March 19, 2004).

Canada Supreme Court's Murky Ruling

zz_gavel_03_07
In a major, though murky, ruling, the Supreme Court of Canada has determined that public opposition to homosexuality can be a “hate crime” under certain conditions.

On February 27, the Supreme Court upheld the conviction of William Whatcott who was charged with a hate crime by the Canadian Human Rights Commission after he distributed flyers in Saskatchewan in 2001 and 2002 opposing the homosexual agenda in public schools.

The flyers bore titles such as “Sodomites in Our Public Schools.” One flyer cited 1 Corinthians 6:9 and said, “The Bible is clear that homosexuality is an abomination,” and, “Scripture records that Sodom and Gomorrah was given over completely to homosexual perversion and as a result destroyed by God’s wrath.”

Yet, in spite of what some reports have implied, it wasn’t the quotes from the Bible that brought the ruling that the fliers constitute a hate crime; it was Whatcott’s statements that homosexuality leads inevitably to such things as child sexual abuse and the implication that all homosexuals are pedophiles. The Court said that the reason Whatcott’s fliers were ruled as hate speech is that they “delegitimize homosexuals by referring to them as filthy or dirty sex addicts and by comparing them to pedophiles” (“Try as It Might, the Supreme Court Can’t Sugar-coat Anti-Christian Censorship,”
National Post, Feb. 27, 2013).

In 2006, the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission (SHRC) ruled against Whatcott and ordered him to pay $17,500 to the complainants. This judgment was overturned in 2010 by the provincial Court of Appeal, and now the Supreme Court has overruled the lower court. Whatcott will probably be required to pay the original $17,500 to the homosexuals who brought the matter to the attention of the Human Rights Commission plus the legal fees of the Commission.

Actually, the Court’s ruling is not only a vicious attack on freedom of religion and freedom of speech, it is confusing, contradictory, and does little to clarify the issue of what is and is not “hate speech” in Canada.

On the one hand, the Court struck down the part of Saskatchewan’s Human Rights Code that forbids the publishing or broadcasting of anything that would “ridicule, belittle or otherwise affront the dignity of any person or class of persons on the basis of a prohibited ground.” The judges said these words are too broad and are not “rationally connected to the objective of protecting people from hate speech.” The Court argued that “it is not enough that an individual or group might feel ridiculed or belittled. Rather, the material must arouse extreme feelings of ‘detestation or vilification’” (“Hate Speech,”
Globe and Mail, Feb. 28, 2013).

Contemporary Christian Music and Homosexuality

Homosexuality is a rapidly growing trend within the CCM movement. It is not a new thing, but formerly it was fairly hidden.

In the 1997 edition of
The Gospel Sound, which first appeared in 1971, Anthony Heilbut said, “The gospel church has long been a refuge for gays and lesbians, some of whom grew up to be among the greatest singers and musicians.”

In 1998 gospel star Kirk Franklin said that “homosexuality ... is a problem today in gospel music--a major concern--and everybody knows it” (
Church Boy, pp. 49, 50).

More recently Douglas Harrison, a homosexual who grew up Southern Baptist, said, “... you can’t swing a Dove Award without hitting upon evidence of the longstanding, deep-set presence of queer experience in, and its influence on, Christian music culture at all levels” (“Come Out from among Them,”
Religion Dispatches, April 30, 2010).

For_Those_Tears_I_Died
James Cleveland’s (the “King of Gospel”) homosexuality was an “open secret” and he died of AIDS.

Marsha Stevens, who wrote the popular song “For Those Tears I Died” and has been called “the mother of Contemporary Christian Music,” was one of the first to come out of the closet. In 1979 she divorced her husband of seven years by whom she had two children, because she had “fallen in love” with a woman. Stevens and her lesbian partner formed Balm Ministries (Born Again Lesbian Music) through which they produce praise and worship albums and conduct training seminars. Christian Century called her “a Jesus-loving, Bible-believing, God-fearing lesbian Christian.”

Stevens’ ministry is recommended by Mark Powell, Professor of New Testament, Trinity Lutheran Seminary, and the author of
An Encyclopedia of Contemporary Christian Music. He states: “The Mother of Contemporary Christian Music continues to capture hearts for Jesus. Argue interpretations of Scripture and debate the ethics and origins of homosexuality all you want--no one with sensitivity to things of the Spirit can deny God is using Marsha Stevens to bring the love and mercy of Christ to people whom God apparently has not forgotten.”

Was King James a Homosexual?

PRINT (click Title first for single article)

zz_king_james_12_17
The accusation that King James I, who authorized the King James Bible, was a homosexual has often been made, but we need to be cautious about accepting it.

Actually, since he fathered eight children, he couldn’t have been much of a homosexual! He wrote love letters to his wife and obviously enjoyed her most intimate company. He referred to her as “our dearest bedfellow” (Gustavus Paine,
The Men Behind the King James Version, p. 4). When John Rainolds questioned the phrase in the Anglican marriage service, “with my body I thee worship,” King James replied: “... if you had a good wife yourself, you would think that all the honor and worship you could do to her would be well bestowed” (Ibid.).

In a book that the king wrote for his son Henry (entitled
Basilikon Doron, or A King’s Gift), he made the following statements about the importance of sexual purity:

“But the principal blessing [is] in your marrying of a godly and virtuous wife … being flesh of your flesh and bone of your bone. … Marriage is the greatest earthly felicity” (p. 43).

“Keep your body clean and unpolluted while you give it to your wife whom to only it belongs for how can you justly crave to be joined with a Virgin if your body be polluted?” (p. 44).

“When you are married, keep inviolably your promise made to God in your marriage” (p. 45).

“Abstain from the filthy vice of adultery; remember only what solemn promise ye made to God at your marriage” (p. 54).

The king wrote plainly against the sin of homosexuality.

“Especially eschew to be effeminate” (Basilikon Doron, p. 46).

“There are some horrible crimes that ye are bound in conscience never to forgive: such as witchcraft, willful murder, incest, and sodomy” (p. 48).

The Emerging Church and Homosexuality

The following is excerpted from What Is the Emerging Church? which is available from Way of Life in print and eBook editions -- www.wayoflife.org.

Brian McLaren says:

“Frankly, many of us don’t know what we should think about homosexuality. ... We aren’t sure if or where lines are to be drawn, nor do we know how to enforce with fairness whatever lines are drawn. ... Perhaps we need a five-year moratorium on making pronouncements” (“
Brian McLaren on the Homosexual Question,” Jan. 23, 2006).

In December 2006, McLaren spoke at the Open Door Community Church in Sherwood, Arkansas. The church’s web site says:

“The leadership at Open Door Community Churches are excited to see gay and non-gay Christians worshiping together as one. We believe that gay and non-gay Christians can and should come to the table of the Lord together, side by side, without labels. We believe that as these two historically separate communities join together at the cross of Jesus Christ a healing and a new understanding of oneness in Christ occurs in both groups. We are part of a growing revival of grace-filled Christians transcending either the terms ‘conservative’ or ‘liberal.’ Above all things, we are a GRACE CHURCH! We are a family embracing the full spectrum of race, age, gender, family status, sexual orientation, economic status and denominational background.”

In September 2012, McLaren’s son Trevor “married” Owen Ryan in a civil ceremony led by Brian at Woodend Sanctuary of the Audubon Naturalist Society in Chevy Chase, Maryland (“Weddings/Celebrations,”
New York Times, Sept. 23, 2012).

Tony Jones, National Coordinator of the Emerging Village, says:

“I now believe that GLBTQ can live lives in accord with biblical Christianity (as least as much as any of us can!) and that their monogamy can and should be sanctioned and blessed by church and state” (Jones, “
How I Went from There to Here: Same Sex Marriage Blogalogue,” Nov. 18, 2008, ).

On January 18, 2009, Jones wrote: “Adele Sakler, whom I’ve known for a few years, has started yet another ‘hyphenated’ group within the emergent network-of-networks. She’s calling it ‘Qeermergent,’ and, as you might guess, it’s focused on GLBTQ issues.”

Should Homosexuals Be Put to Death?

passion
In the Friday Church News Notes for August 10, 2012, we published the following:

HOMOSEXUALS AGAINST JESUS
. It is popular among homosexual activists to claim that Jesus didn’t say anything against homosexuality, but this is pure nonsense. Jesus upheld the law of Moses, saying: “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:17-19). The law of Moses forbad homosexual activity in the strongest terms. In fact, it was a capital offense. “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death” (Leviticus 20:13). Those are the words of the very law that Jesus came to fulfill, which He did by living a perfectly righteous life in our stead and dying to pay the price demanded by the law for man’s sins. Further, Jesus upheld the original marriage covenant of Genesis 2. When asked about His position on divorce, Jesus replied: “Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder” (Matthew 19:4-6). Thus, Jesus plainly upheld “traditional” one man/one woman marriage. Homosexual activists aren’t just opposed to a few “hard-nosed” Christians, they are opposed to Jesus Himself, at whose name “every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and ... every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10).

In response to this I received the following accusation:

The Pro-Homosexual Movement Within Evangelicals

There is a rapidly growing tendency among popular Christian writers to accept unrepentant homosexuals as genuine Christians and to refuse to “judge” them. Following are a few examples:

Chris Seay, author of Faith of My Fathers, says churches are not “called to be moral police” and that we should “approach homosexuals without condemnation” (“Shayne Wheeler and Chris Seay on Homosexuals and the Church,” ChurchRelevance.com, June 19, 2007).

Donald McCullough says that “condemning homosexuality feels natural because about 95 percent of us could never imagine engaging in such a practice” but “in a world turned upside down by grace, we must distrust whatever feels natural” (If Grace Is So Amazing, Why Don’t We Like It, pp. 201, 202).

Brian McLaren says:

“Frankly, many of us don’t know what we should think about homosexuality. ... We aren’t sure if or where lines are to be drawn, nor do we know how to enforce with fairness whatever lines are drawn. ... Perhaps we need a five-year moratorium on making pronouncements” (“Brian McLaren on the Homosexual Question,” Jan. 23, 2006, http://blog.christianitytoday.com/outofur/archives/2006/01/brian_mclaren_o.html).

Jim Wallis, founder of Sojourners, says in his book The Great Awakening (2008), that “civil rights for gay and lesbian people and equal protection under the law for same-sex couples” is “a justice issue” (p. 229).

Gaither Artfully Distances Himself From Lesbian Marsha Stevens

Republished May 26, 2011 (first published May 5, 2006) (David Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061, 866-295-4143, fbns@wayoflife.org; for instructions about subscribing and unsubscribing or changing addresses, see the information paragraph at the end of the article) -

On May 4, 2006, Bill Gaither issued a public statement “regarding misrepresentation” about his 2002 meeting with Marsha Stevens. He calls her story “a sad one” and says it is “unfortunate” that she has publicly declared herself to be a lesbian” (“Gaither Issues Statement Regarding Misrepresentation,” SingingNews.com, May 4).

He claims that false reports of what transpired at the December 2002 concert have surfaced on various web sites and says he wants to set the record straight; but in this statement he admits practically everything that Marsha Stevens had reported.

He acknowledges that he admitted her to the backstage area where she and her partner were greeted by him and Mark Lowry.

He acknowledges that he invited the crowd to sing her song later that night and that he told them that the woman who wrote it was in the crowd.
