We are pleased to announce the publication of a multi-media video presentation titled Old Time Fundamentalists Who Stood for the King James Bible.

Some recent publications have made the claim that fundamentalists of old did not defend the King James Bible and have argued that the defense of the KJV is of recent origin. This high-quality one-hour videotape, which is packed with powerful visual illustrations, proves the error of this thinking. It documents fundamentalist leaders prior to 1960 who defended the King James Bible against the modern versions of their day. Three key fundamentalist leaders are featured, each of whom was very influential.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN DEARMORE (1896-1969) was a fundamentalist leader in Texas. He was Chairman of the Faculty at the Bible Baptist Seminary (J. Frank Norris’s school in Ft. Worth) until 1948, when he co-founded the Worth Bible College. For many years he edited an independent Baptist paper called The Message. In the May 28, 1959 issue, Dr. Dearmore wrote, “As for me, I will take the King James translation as the very Word of God for the English people. I believe it is without error. It is 100 percent correct.” There were hundreds of independent Baptist churches in those days which stood exclusively for the King James Bible and which unequivocally opposed the modern versions.

WILLIAM ABERHART (1878-1943) was a prominent fundamentalist leader in western Canada. Many well-known fundamentalist leaders, such as W.B. Riley and Harry Rimmer, preached at Aberhart’s Bible Institute Baptist Church, which seated 1,250. As the head of the Calgary Prophetic Bible Institute, Aberhart trained many men who became fundamentalist leaders in western Canada. He boldly defended the KJV against the modern versions of that day. In a booklet published in 1925 titled “What About the Revised Version of the Bible,” Aberhart warned against modern textual criticism and taught that it undermined the doctrine of Bible preservation.

PHILIP MAURO (1859-1952) was one of the fathers of fundamentalism. He was a famous lawyer who argued before the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court. In 1930, at age 45, he was gloriously converted and went on to publish many influential books. Mauro was one of the authors of The Fundamentals, the books which gave the fundamentalist movement its name in the 1920s. Mauro’s 1924 work Which Version? Authorized or Revised? boldly defended the King James Bible against the modern versions.
