We are pleased to announce the publication of a multi-media video presentation titled The Calvinism Debate: Who Is the Enemy? Photographs, books, and other visual aids are professionally mixed into this high-quality presentation to illustrate the message.
This video message deals with the controversial debate on Calvinistic or TULIP theology. The speaker does not believe one has to accept either Calvinistic or Arminian theology. One can, instead, be simply a Biblicist and accept the Bible’s teaching on its face without making an attempt to neatly reconcile every seeming contradiction. Systematic theology is helpful and has an important place in teaching Bible truth, but it can be dangerous if the “theologian” attempts to go beyond simple Bible statements to answer questions that we cannot answer on this side of eternity. The speaker is convinced that the attempt to do this was one of John Calvin’s chief errors.
The author has studied Calvin’s Institutes of Christian Religion and concludes that Calvinism, as it was taught by Calvin himself, contained several serious errors. These are (1) turning theology into philosophy, (2) interpreting Scripture by theology rather than biblical context, (3) assigning set definitions to theological terms instead of allowing context to define them, (4) forcing either-or solutions to biblical problems, (5) confusing the church with Israel, and (6) going back to the “church fathers” instead of strictly to the Apostles. Pertaining to point number six, in his “Institutes,” Calvin repeatedly said that he leaned upon Augustine, one of the fathers of the Roman Catholic Church. For example, he said, “If I were inclined to compile a whole volume from Augustine, I could easily show my readers, that I need no words but his” (Institutes, Book III, chap. 22).
The video message concludes by considering “Who or what is the chief enemy in this debate?” A two-fold answer is given: (1) The chief enemy is any theology that dampens evangelistic zeal; and (2) the chief enemy is any methodology that corrupts evangelistic zeal. The author is convinced that the practice of “easy believism” or “quick Prayerism” is as harmful to the cause of Jesus Christ as hyper Calvinism.
This is an important presentation for Churches, Bible Colleges, and Home Schools that want to prepare their people to deal with the apostasy and compromise of these last days.
