September 22, 2000 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - Desmond Tutu, the Anglican archbishop of South Africa, is frequently in the news. When the African National Congress communists were trying to overthrow the South African government, Tutu supported them. Since Tutu has been highly acclaimed in so many publications, we want our readers to know that his personal beliefs are extremely liberal and that he should not be respected by any Bible-believing Christian.

TUTU BLASPHEMOUSLY QUESTIONS THE VIRGIN BIRTH OF CHRIST

"Some people thought there was something odd about Jesusâ birth... It may be that Jesus was an illegitimate son" (Cape Times, October 24, 1980).

TUTU BELIEVES HINDUS HAVE THE HOLY SPIRIT

"The Holy Spirit is not limited to the Christian Church. For example, Mahatma Gandhi, who is a Hindu ... The Holy Spirit shines through him" (St. Alban's Cathedral, Pretoria, South Africa, November 23, 1978).

TUTU BELIEVES THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS THIS PRESENT WORLD

"When justice prevails over injustice as in Zimbabwe, it shows that the kingdom of God is here already" (Ecunews, November 1980).

In fact, the Bible teaches that the Kingdom of God will be established on this earth at the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ in power and glory -- and not before! And certainly the kingdom of God is not now being established by communist leaders in Zimbabwe. "And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT THAT THE KINGDOM OF GOD SHOULD IMMEDIATELY APPEAR. He said therefore, A CERTAIN NOBLEMAN WENT INTO A FAR COUNTRY TO RECEIVE FOR HIMSELF A KINGDOM, AND TO RETURN. And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. And it came to pass, that WHEN HE WAS RETURNED, HAVING RECEIVED THE KINGDOM, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading" (Luke 19:11-15).

TUTU EXALTS MURDERING COMMUNISTS

"[Nelson] Mandela is my leader, and I am not going to be dictated to as to who should be my leader" (The Star, August 16, 1985). [Note: At the time when Tutu made this statement, Nelson Mandela was the African National Congress terrorist in prison for attempting to overthrow the South African government with violence. When the South African government offered to release him from prison if he would renounce violence, Mandela refused and chose rather to stay in prison. The African National Congress murdered thousands of black South Africans in its push to destroy the old government.]

TUTU BELIEVES ALL MEN HAVE GOD

Speaking at Expo 2000 in Hanover, Germany, in June 2000, Tutu stated: "And because everybody is a God-carrier, all are brothers and sisters; all are one family that can live in peace. Then evil will be overcome and God will say: ÎYou are my children. Help me to realise my dream.â" (Ecumenical News International, June 15, 2000).

TUTU SUPPORTS HOMOSEXUALITY

On February 9, 1996, a public message signed by 300 Anglican leaders was issued in support of the homosexual organization called the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement. Thirteen Anglican bishops added their names to this document, including Desmond Tutu. The statement, released on the 20th anniversary of the homosexual group, said, "On its 20th anniversary celebration, we recognise the valuable contribution made to the continuing debate on sexuality and Christianity by the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement, and we call upon the Churches to engage fully with this important question." In a follow-up interview on British Broadcasting Corporation's Sunday Programme on February 12, Tutu called for the ordination of homosexuals. He said, "The Church has not got there yet, but if we were to say that in relationships it is desirable that there is fidelity between a couple, why should we not extend the same conditions to same sex relationships."

TUTU IS A RACIST

"Thank God I am black. White people will have a lot to answer for at the last judgment" (Argus, March 19, 1984).

The Holy Scriptures teach that Jesus Christ will judge irregardless of race. Revelation 20 describes the last judgment and it does not mention race. The judgment is based on works, not skin color.

"God will render to every man according to his works: To those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; but glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: FOR THERE IS NO RESPECT OF PERSONS WITH GOD" (Romans 2:6-11).

Like many of the prominent black leaders today who are exalted by the liberal mainstream media, Tutu is the worst kind of racist. In fact, he is a rabble-rouser. He conveniently forgets the wretched history of mankind, of centuries of tribal warfare in Africa and in every habitable part of the earth -- black against black, white against white, yellow against yellow, brown against brown, red against red. The book of Acts said God has made all men of ONE BLOOD (Acts 17:26). It is not skin color that is the problem; it is a nature problem -- the hearts of ALL men are darkened with sin. This is the worldâs real problem, and the "Reverend" Tutu should be preaching the blessed Gospel of eternal salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ instead of his false gospel of racial division, universalism, and communism.
