Updated August 10, 2000 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - We continually receive letters and e-mail from Christians who are disturbed by the New Evangelical-type compromise within their churches and who seek information they can share with others to warn of this danger. Many excellent materials that were published on this subject in past years are out of print. The following are some of the materials currently in print. Please note that the materials by other publishers are not available from Way of Life Literature. Carefully note the ordering information that follows the description of each publication. Though we cannot recommend every statement in the books by other men, we are convinced that these books are important enough to advertise to our readers --

CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN MUSIC UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT (D.W. CLOUD). This 450-page book is, to our knowledge, the most extensive examination of Contemporary Christian Music in print. An encyclopedia of 200 CCM musicians, containing profiles of their lives and ministries, church affiliations, philosophies, ecumenical associations, music, etc. Documentation proving that CCM is owned largely by secular corporations. Lyrics to CCM songs illustrating the vagueness and heresy of their message. Twenty-three key CCM arguments answered (we must use rock music to win young people, music is neutral, people are getting saved, God doesn't look on the outward appearance, Luther used tavern music, God created all music, Christians are not to judge, etc.). Careful documentation of every fact presented. How to keep Contemporary Christian Music out of churches. Where Christians should draw the line with music. The book contains a list of Suggested Resources on Music, listing sources for sound Christian music, hymnals, resources for song leading, and materials for further reading on the topic of Contemporary Christian Music. EVANGELICALS AND ROME (D.W. CLOUD) This 395-page volume traces the amazing history of the evangelical world's journey to Rome. Nothing more plainly demonstrates the ongoing fulfillment of prophecies pertaining to end-time apostasy and the formation of a world-world harlot "church." The Introduction documents the history and apostasy of Evangelicalism since the 1940s. Part 1 answers the question "Is the Roman Catholic Church Changing?" It includes a study from official Vatican II documents as well as from the New Catholic Catechism proving that the RCC has not changed its heretical position on such things as the mass, the papacy, Mary, purgatory, the priesthood, prayers to the dead, and the sacraments. The author also shows that Vatican II and the New Catechism affirm the blasphemous declarations of the Council of Trent. Part II covers "Billy Graham and Rome," documenting Billy Graham's relationship with the Roman Catholic Church from 1950 to present. Part III covers "Other Influential Evangelical Leaders and Organizations and Rome," documenting popular evangelical leaders and organizations, including Campus Crusade, Christian Research Institute, James Dobson, Chuck Colson, Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, D. James Kennedy, J.I. Packer, Luis Palau, John R. Stott, Youth for Christ. Part IV deals with "The Southern Baptist Convention and Rome." Part V deals with "The Charismatics and Rome." Dozens of influential Charismatic leaders and organizations are documented. Part VI deals with "Promise Keepers and Rome." Part VII deals with "Contemporary Christian Music and Rome." Part VIII deals with the subject of "Evangelical Catholics." This section looks at the phenomenon of so-called evangelical Catholicism and charismatic Catholics. The book "Evangelical Catholics" by Keith Fournier (foreword by Chuck Colson) is reviewed and refuted from Scripture. Part IX looks at the many ways "Rome Denies Salvation by Grace Alone." Part X deals with the recent agreement between "Lutherans and Catholics on the Doctrine of Salvation by Grace." Part XI looks at Evangelicals and Catholics Together II. Part XII answers the question "Was Mother Teresa a True Christian?" Did she teach the people under her care the true Gospel? This study contains an interview with a nun who works with Mother Teresa's Sisters of Charity. Read this amazing interview and learn what this Calcutta-trained nun does to prepare Hindus for death. Part XIII examines the charge that we donāt understand the Catholic Church. 395 pages, 5X8, perfect bound. A HISTORY OF FUNDAMENTALISM IN AMERICA (George W. Dollar). An important history of Fundamentalism by an Independent Baptist author. Chapter XII is entitled "An Enemy Within: New Evangelicalism." 289 pages. (Order from P.O. Box 1234, Sarasota, FL 33578. 941-439-3587.)

IN PURSUIT OF PURITY: AMERICAN FUNDAMENTALISM SINCE 1850 by David O. Beale. This volume is one of the most extensive histories available written by a fundamental Baptist. Most of the books which attempt to give this history are written by Evangelicals who do not understand a genuine zeal for the truth and which focus, rather, on the foibles of men. One of the chapters is titled "The Challenge of Broad Evangelicalism." 457 pages. (Order from Bob Jones University Press, Greenville, SC 29614. Phone 800-845-5731.)

NEW NEUTRALISM II: EXPOSING THE GREY OF COMPROMISE by John Ashbrook. This 1992 book is a sequel to one first published in 1958 (and frequently revised since) by the author's father, William Ashbrook, titled Evangelicalism: The New Neutralism. Both books contain a wealth of information about the phenomenon of New Evangelicalism, and we feel that New Neutralism II is one of the very best books ever written on this subject. Ashbrook gives a clear definition of New Evangelicalism and traces its historical influence. In particular he deals with such institutions and men as Harold Ockenga, Billy Graham, Fuller Seminary, the National Association of Evangelicals, Campus Crusade, Moody Bible Institute, BIOLA college, John Stott, John MacArthur, Luis Palau, E.V. Hill, Charles Colson, Charles Stanley, Charles Swindoll, Bill Hybels, Bill Gothard, Warren Wiersbe, and Jerry Falwell. This book contains a helpful index. (Order from Here I Stand Books, 536 Greenside Dr., Painesville, OH 44077.)

TODAY'S EVANGELICALS-EMBRACING THE WORLD'S DEADLIEST CULT by Wilson Ewin. This book traces early Christian apostasy leading centuries later to the evolution and emergence of the papal cult. It deals next with the Vatican II ecumenical devices which Rome is using in recent decades. The book then exposes certain key Evangelical organizations and personages who are now cooperating with Rome. Finally, the book presents the rapidly changing phenomena of global events which are leading to the imminent fulfillment of Bible prophecies. 74 pages. 24 glossy photos. (IN THE U.S.A. order directly from Quebec Baptist Missions, P.O. Box 180, Norton, VT 05907-0180. IN CANADA order from Quebec Baptist Missions, 9 Cochrane Road, Compton, Quebec, J0B 1L0.)

THE TRAGEDY OF COMPROMISE: THE ORIGIN AND IMPACT OF THE NEW EVANGELICALISM by Ernest Pickering. This 184-page book contains an excellent overview of the history and widespread influence of New Evangelicalism. There are seven chapters. One: "Wolves in Sheep's Clothing" -- the Fundamentalist-Modernist controversy. Two: "Developing the Art of Fence-Straddling" -- the beginnings and growth of New Evangelicalism. Three: "Broadening the Sawdust Trail" -- ecumenical evangelicalism and Billy Graham. Four: "Reaping the Whirlwind" -- the young and worldly evangelicals. Five: "Keeping Everybody Happy" -- the "new" New Evangelicalism. Six: "Salad Bar Sanctuaries" -- the concept of "marketing for Jesus." Seven: "Gray Hairs are Here and There" -- the subtle drift toward New Evangelicalism among fundamentalists. Chapter seven alone is worth the price of the book. This chapter, "Gray Hairs Are Here and There: The Subtle Drift Toward the New Evangelicalism," deals with the increasing tendency of formerly Fundamentalist churches to entertain the New Evangelical philosophy. 184 pages.
