December 20, 1998 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - The following letter is from a subscriber to the Fundamental Baptist Information Service. It illustrates what is happening in many fundamental Baptist churches in the area of music. This is happening because of the worldly condition of so many Christian homes, even in good churches. Parents, are you building up the godly atmosphere of your church by the atmosphere of your home and the influence of your home through your children? By what we do or do not accomplish in the home, we are not merely influencing our own children, we are, through them, influencing many others. If you are in a good church which has the spiritual fortitude and courage to stand against Contemporary Christian Music in the congregation, please dont undermine that good church by being careless and worldly by your choice of music in your personal life and in your home. Now to the letter I received
Brother Cloud, if I havent said it before, THANK YOU! The timeliness of this report will help me in my endeavors to open the eyes of our churchs youth. Im looking forward to the release of the book you are working on ["Contemporary Christian Music under the Spotlight," scheduled for publication in early 1999], if the details of your e-mail are an indication, it ought to be really good!
Sadly, at our church, no matter how much it is preached against, CCM is prevailing in the lives of our youth. We do not use CCM in the church, but as one of the youth leaders in our church I know for a fact CCM, C-rock and secular country and rock are listened to. My kids 13 & 15 tell me because they share my frustration and they struggle as a result because of those other youth. Its indeed sad, because I also know kids in other KJV Independent Baptist Churches are just like the ones here; many came from other parts of the country with their bad taste in music. Until the parents have their eyes opened I fear the worst for our youth. Satan has truly found a way into our churches!
