June 17, 1998 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - The United Kingdom version of Promise Keepers is in the process of being established. Anglican "curate" Peter Howell-Jones is acting as national spokesman. He claims that the PK movement in the United Kingdom has gained "heavyweight" backing, including the support of the Archbishop of Canterbury, though the Archbishop’s office denies giving formal support (Peter Glover, "Promise Keepers UK: Coming Your Way," CRN Journal, Issue 1, 1998, Christian Research Network, London, England). Jones states that the Promise Keepers emphasis in the UK will be teaching in church groups rather than mass rallies.

Promise Keepers calls for the breaking down of denominational walls and the unity of all who profess Christ and ignores the Bible’s warnings that the end times are to be characterized by widespread apostasy, by an abundance of false teachers who proclaim false christs and false gospels. (See the article "End Times Apostasy Is a Bible Doctrine" in the "Ecumenical" section of the End Times Apostasy Database at the Way of Life web site.) We see the fulfillment of these biblical prophecies on every hand in the doctrinal and moral confusion evident in the various denominations, and those who call for ecumenical unity today are rebellious men who are not willing to earnestly contend for the faith once delivered to the saints (Jude 3). There are roughly 80 well-documented articles at the Way of Life web site which document the unscriptural nature of Promise Keepers. We recommend the one entitled "The Promise Keepers-Roman Catholic Connection."
