October 10, 2001 (David Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061, 866-295-4143, fbns@wayoflife.org) - Hollywood actress Jane Fonda earned the nickname "Hanoi Jane" for her support of communist North Vietnam during the American conflict there in the early 1970s. She traveled to Hanoi, dressed in a communist military uniform, and pretended to shoot down U.S. pilots with an anti-aircraft gun.

Only a short distance from where Fonda was performing her strange exploits for the benefit of the cameras, imprisoned American pilots were being tortured and were dying under the brutal captivity of the communist slave masters.

The Vietnamese conflict was not wisely operated on the American side, but the overall goal of stopping communism from enslaving more people was right and noble.

Now Hanoi Jane is again on the wrong side of a conflict involving America. Speaking with radio station WGST in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 21, Fonda said it would be a mistake for the United States to retaliate militarily against the perpetrators of the September 11 terrorist attacks which killed 6,700 Americans. She said the "saber rattling" and "calls for vengeance" concerned her very much.

It was widely reported in 1999 that Jane Fonda had become a Christian, but it appears to have been a short lived fling. In April 2000, Fonda was the keynote speaker at a dinner sponsored by Utahns for Choice in Salt Lake City. She spoke out strongly in favor of abortion and criticized those who are against it. Recently MSNBC reported that a source close to Fonda testified that the former actress told her that she "didn't have time for that stuff" (religion) anymore.
