NATIONAL DAY OF REPUDIATION OF JESSE JACKSON. Friday News Notes, December 29, 2000 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - Jesse Lee Peterson, founder and president of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny, is holding the second annual ãNational Day of Repudiation of Jesse Jackson.ä Peterson, a black man, has pledged to hold the event every year ãuntil Jesse Jackson repents of his ways and stops attempting to tear the races apart for his own personal gain.ä Peterson warned, ãJesse Jacksonâs attack on our nationâs highest court and the legitimacy of our new president is dangerous; Dr. [Martin Luther] King would never have stood for it. · Jesse Jackson is out of control. He has become a national embarrassment. He is a self-serving racist, a problem profiteer, who with the help of the liberal media, has co-opted Dr. King's dream and turned it into a nightmare.ä Peterson asked all Americans to stand with him and ãrepudiate this desperate, unprincipled man.ä Petersonâs organization, which exists to ãrebuild the family by rebuilding the man," operates programs to help black youths and their families.

COURTS THROWING OUT LAWSUITS AGAINST GUN MANUFACTURERS. Friday News Notes, December 29, 2000 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - So far, Federal judges are throwing out lawsuits filed by roughly 30 cities in the U.S. against gun manufacturers. The municipalities allege that gun makers have negligently marketed their products and thus should pay the costs of policing gun crimes and providing medical treatment for gun victims. This week, U.S. District Judge Berle Schiller threw out Philadelphiaâs lawsuit against gun manufacturers, observing in a strongly-worded ruling that the suit lacked merit and was ãa theory in search of a case.ä On December 5, U.S. District Judge Jerome Simandle threw out Camden County, New Jerseyâs lawsuit, and on August 14 an Ohio appellate court upheld an earlier dismissal of Cincinnatiâs lawsuit.Ê The court said that to rule for the city ãwould open a Pandoraâs box.ä Only a nation drunken on humanistic psychology, which teaches that man is not responsible for his own actions, would even conceive of such a ridiculous basis for a lawsuit.

CATHOLIC ARCHBISHOP SPOKE AT GRAHAM CONFERENCE. Friday News Notes, December 29, 2000 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - Adrianus Simonis, Catholic archbishop of Utrecht, spoke to the Amsterdam 2000 itinerant evangelist conference in July. The conference was sponsored and funded by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Though Billy Graham was not able to attend in person, his son, Franklin, was in charge. When asked by the press about ecumenical relations with the Catholic church, Franklin Graham replied that his father ãhad always reached out to all churches and we continue to look to those things with which we agree rather than those things with which we disagree.ä Archbishop Simonis told the crowd of evangelists, ãThe Roman Catholic community welcomes you to Amsterdam. There has been an exchange of letters between Billy Graham and Pope Paul dated June 16, 2000.äÊ The Roman Catholic archbishop was followed by the president of the modernistic Council of Churches in the Netherlands, Dr. A.H.C. van Eijk, who declared, ãWe are the same, for personal faith and social action go together. Evangelicals and ecumenicals are one in Christ.ä

Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) -Ê Catholic priest John Peter was murdered in India this month in the Andaman Islands. CHINA CHRISTIANS CALLING FOR HELP FROM FOREIGN BIBLE TEACHERS. Friday News Notes, December 29, 2000 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) -Ê A Chinese church leader told Compass Direct News Service that Chinaâs Christians need foreign Bible teachers to help them grow in the faith. The leader, who remained unnamed in the report for security purposes, said some church groups are growing by 20% per year and that there is an urgent need for sound Bible teachers to ãhelp us ground ourselves in the Scriptures; otherwise we may become unorthodox, or a cult.ä The Chinese government forbids religious workers to conduct Bible studies, though some are doing so clandestinely. In August, three Charismatic Bible teachers from the Vineyard movement in the United States were arrested in the Henan province and deported. More than 100 Chinese nationals were also arrested, and some are still in jail.

PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS LACK CHARACTER. Friday News Notes, December 29, 2000 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) -Ê A new survey by the Josephson Institute of Ethics has found that public school teenagers lack moral character to a shocking degree. 71% cheat; 78% lie to their teachers; 98% lie to their parents; 40% have stolen something from a store in the last year. Home School Legal Defense Association spokesman Mike Smith observed: ãThis certainly confirms the decisions that thousands of parents are making to teach their children at home ... especially in the area of socialization. The argument is that by sending our children into a school setting, they will get positive socialization. . . . this is not the positive peer pressure that we want for children.ä
