November 22, 2000 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - The seven justices of the Florida Supreme Court have ruled unanimously that the hand counting of three heavily democratic counties in south Florida must be included in the tally for the presidential election. In doing this they have ignored the widespread evidence of fraud within the re-counting process of these very counties.
In its decision, the Florida Supreme Court has admitted that it ignored the electoral laws and based its ruling, instead, on ãthe will of the people.ä As has often been observed, pure democracy is mob rule; but that is the direction that America is headed. The United States was not formed as a democracy, but as a democratic republic, meaning a country ruled by laws formed by elected representatives. This was because they understood fallen human nature and did not trust ãthe will of the people.ä Notice the following excerpt from this activist courtâs decision:
ãTwenty-five years ago, this court commented that the will of the people, not a hyper-technical reliance upon statutory provisions, should be our guiding principle in election cases. . . . We consistently have adhered to the principle that the will of the people is the paramount consideration.ä
Those are frightful words. Judges have great power, and if they are not bound by the law, only evil can result. Of course, laws themselves can be evil, but it is not the job of a judge to overturn them. These judges took an oath to rule on the law. Their job is like that of an umpire in a baseball game. The ãwill of the peopleä has nothing to do with it. He might think that some players are not getting a fair deal or that some teams donât have an equal chance at winning, but that is not his business. The umpireâs role is not to make up rules or to play favorites with people, but to make certain that the rules are kept. Period. The symbol of the judicial system is a blindfolded woman holding a scale. That depicts the impartial rule of law that is to characterize a good judge.
This business about ãthe will of the peopleä is a mere smokescreen, anyway. How could the judges decide on such a complex thing as ãthe will of the peopleä? The will of WHICH people? The people in most of the state are having their ballots counted twice by machine and certified, while the people in a small part of the state are having their ballots hand counted after two machine counts. The people in one or two counties are even having ãdimple ballotsä counted, meaning ballots that were not punched all of the way through so that a machine could read them. The people in the rest of the state who might have cast ãdimple ballotsä are having their ballots completely ignored. What about the will of all of these people? And what about the will of the people who cast absentee ballots from military bases just to see them tossed aside on various frivolous grounds? What about the will of the people who simply want their elected officials and judges to follow the law and to stop playing with the election? What about the will of the people who have witnessed fraud within the vote counting process?
The founding fathers wisely established a balance of power between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government. All of this is being dismantled. Activist judges are haughtily pretending that they are both lawmakers and executors.
The deception and lack of wisdom in high places is Godâs curse upon our land for our wickedness and apostasy.
ãAs for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy pathsä (Isaiah 3:12).
ãTherefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hidä (Isaiah 29:14).
ãThe wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?ä (Jeremiah 8:9).
All of this reminds us that the hour is very late. ãThe night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of lightä (Romans 13:12).
