November 22, 1996 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - On November 19, Don Argue became the first president of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) to speak to the National Council of Churches in America, an arm of the radically liberal World Council of Churches. Argue, who is also an Assemblies of God minister, said he has developed a "good relationship" with the NCC's general secretary, Joan Brown Campbell (Ecumenical News International, ENI, November 19, 1996). Argue said he has no difficulty recognizing NCC leaders as fellow Christians.

This is an amazing statement. Does he recognize a man or woman who denies the virgin birth, deity, miracles, atonement, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as a fellow Christian? There are large numbers of National Council of Church leaders who deny these biblical doctrines and who worship the false christ of modernism. We have documented this repeatedly through the years.

The National Association of Evangelicals was formed in 1942 to promote "cooperation without compromise" and to stand in opposition to the liberalism of the mainline denominations represented by the Federal Council of Churches, the forerunner to the present National Council of Churches.

The two organizations have been drawing closer through the years. It is not the NCC which has changed; it is the NAE, which has grown more ecumenical and liberal with each passing decade. Some of its own leaders have warned of this change.
