October 17, 1996 (Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - The following is from Foundation magazine, May-June 1996 (Fundamental Evangelistic Association, P.O. Box 6278, Los Osos, CA 93412) --

The American Bible Society (ABS) has mishandled and perverted the Word of God for many years. Bible-believing Christians must realize that this organization is doing more to pollute the Word of God than to promote it. Not only has the ABS copyrighted Today's English Version in 1966, the Good News Bible in 1976, and the Contemporary English Version in 1991, but it also cooperates closely with Roman Catholics and even allows them to hold executive positions with the ABS. Dr. Eugene Nida, the head of the ABS translation department in 1979, said the society's participation with Catholics was a 'very important development.' In the May 1996 issue of the ABS Record a biographical sketch appears of Father Robert J. Robbins, vice chairman of the ABS church relations and volunteer activities committees. The Record says Robbins, a Catholic, 'helps guide the American Bible Society in working with its vital network of church supporters and volunteers.' The article continues, 'An ABS Board member since 1991, Father Robbins also serves on the Committee on Trustees and on the Finance/Administration and Executive committees.' The Catholic Church denies the sole authority of God's Word. Believers should see the inconsistency of the ABS and refuse to support it (Foundation, May-June 1996, pp. 31,32).
