December 23, 1997 (Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - On December 10 we published a report entitled "Southern Baptist Convention Works with Liberal China Christian Council." In this we documented the modernism and apostasy of the China Christian Council and the associated Three-Self Christian Movement in communist China. The following testimony was subsequently sent to us by a missionary in China. The author's name is kept anonymous for obvious reasons. We do know the author's name and can personally confirm that this individual is indeed a missionary in China --
"As you know I am a missionary in China. The head of the local seminary [operated by the China Christian Council] and I have become friends. He told me that they had about 60 students studying to be preachers. About 20 of them were women. He said that most of them are obviously unsaved. He brought me four of his best students and asked if I would teach them Bible. They all had a bad spirit about them. He said that most of the students paid local officials in their hometowns to bribe them for a chance to study at the seminary since no college would accept them. Then when they graduate, they pay the governor of the province and he appoints them to a church. God is nowhere around the whole operation. This is the sort of thing the Southern Baptist Convention is supporting.
"From the testimonies of some we have been able to lead to the Lord who have attended the State [controlled] church, as well as some of the seminary students, baptismal regeneration is generally taught. Furthermore, the local State church only has baptismal services once a year. It is not announced until about a week before, and even all who wish to baptized are not accepted. It is rather like they will only baptize those who not only make a profession of faith, but who also fall into step with the State church."
