June 20, 2000 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - Senior Church of England clergy are joining hands this month with Druids, wiccans, and sharmans, at a conference designed to "help reconcile" their "traditions." The conference is called Spirit of the Land 2000 and is described as "a Christian-Druid dialogue and reconciliation meeting for the New Millennium" ("Alarm over Church Talks with Druids," Electronic Telegraph, May 21, 2000). Anglican representatives include Marcus Small, a vicar in Hertfordshire, and the "Very Reverend" Alexander Wedderspoon, the Dean of Guildford.
Druidism and Wiccanism are forms of paganism and witchcraft condemned severely by the Bible. The adherents of these false religions worship the creation as god. Mark Graham, of the Pagan Federation, told the Electronic Telegraph, "Some pagans believe in magic, just like some Christians believe in the power of prayer and miracles. We celebrate our connectedness to nature, and I will sometimes dance naked around a fire."
"When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee" (Deuteronomy 18:9-12).
Other Church of England leaders have warned that this conference is dangerous, but they remain yoked together in this unscriptural "church" with the multitude of unregenerates, heretics, open homosexuals, and other reprobates who populate the Anglican denomination today.
"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty" (2 Corinthians 6:14-18).
