WHAT IS WAY OF LIFE LITERATURE?
BROTHER CLOUD'S TESTIMONY AND FAMILY.
In the summer of 1973, I was saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I had grown up in a Christian home but had not repented of my sin and had
rebelled against the Bible. I was living a hippie lifestyle. Months earlier,
I had hitchhiked several thousand miles across America, staying in rescue
missions and camping beside the highways. I had been arrested for drug
abuse and was studying eastern religions. While traveling in south Florida,
I met a Christian man who led him to the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise God
for His kindness and mercy to lift sinners out of the mire! Every blessing
and success in my life has flowed strictly from my relationship with the
Lord Jesus Christ. When He put his hand upon me in 1973, I was a worthless
sinner and an irresponsible bum! Even now, I am no better than a "zero
with the rim rubbed out" in myself apart from the Lord's grace. One year
after I was saved, I attended Tennessee Temple Bible School in Chattanooga,
Tennessee, and graduated in 1977. I met Linda, my wife-to-be, in Tennessee
in 1974, but six weeks later she went to South Asia to be a missionary
nurse. We corresponded and got engaged by mail in 1975. Apart from my salvation,
Linda is the most wonderful gift God has put into my life. Our children
are ages 23,20,18, and 18. Our oldest daughter completed Bible college
this spring and is currently a missionary to South Asia.
MISSIONARY WORK. We spent 10 years in South Asia as church planting missionaries (1979-1989) and had the privilege of pioneering fundamental Baptist church planting work in one of the countries in that part of the world. We had to work "underground" because Gospel preaching was illegal at that time. It was against the law to "proselytize," change religion, or be baptized. Hundreds of nationals and a few foreign nations were jailed for their faith. During at least two of our years there, a warrant was out for my arrest, and several of our church members spent time in jail. We ordained a national man to be the pastor of this church before we were forced to leave the country in 1989, and the church has grown steadily and has started eight other churches. In 1993, they completed a two-story church building with their own tithes and offerings. In addition to their own pastor, they support evangelists who are involved in church planting. They also publish a Bible teaching magazine in their own language and conduct Bible school courses to train preachers and Christian workers.
THE FOUNDING OF WAY OF LITERATURE. When I was saved at age 23, the Lord gave me a burden to communicate the truths of Godâs Word via the printed page. Within six months, I had printed my first booklet. It was a book warning about rock & roll music. I had gotten a job working as a commercial printer shortly after my conversion, and my boss allowed me to use the equipment on my lunch breaks to print little sermon booklets that I had written. This burden for writing and the printed page has grown steadily through the years. I began using the name Way of Life Literature on my books in 1978. The name came from Proverbs 6:23: "For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life." The biblical instruction that molds men to Godâs will requires reproof. It is not strictly positive. It does not focus on manâs "self-esteem." It does not avoid controversial or unpopular subjects. It warns as well as comforts. It deals with sin and false teaching in a plain manner. It is reproves, rebukes, exhorts with all longsuffering and doctrine (2 Tim. 4:2). This is what we seek to do through Way of Life Literature. WAY OF LIFE LITERATURE IN FOREIGN LANGUAGES. Way of Life Literature flourished during our 10 years of missionary work in South Asia. In addition to church planting, we produced sound Bible materials in national languages. These included a Topical Bible Study Handbook and books on Bible Prophecy, Bible Study Methods, Church Discipline, Cults and False Teaching, and Child Training. Since 1989 Way of Life Literature has been based in the States. Since then, we have published dozens of books and booklets in English and other languages. These include Fundamentalism, Modernism, and New Evangelicalism in Spanish, Was Mother Teresa a True Christian in Korean, Biblical Separation in Spanish, Easy Prayerism or Bible Evangelism in German, Charismatic Confusion in Evangelism in Russian, and The Apocryphal Books and many others in Czech. Way of Life Literature has published more than 100 books and booklets in ten languages -- English, Nepali, Ao, Tibetan, Russian, Spanish, French, Chinese, German, Korean, and Czech. Though Way of Life Literature does not maintain supplies of these for distribution, in the Directory of Foreign Language Literature at the Way of Life web site we have listed sources for the ones that are currently in print. See http://www.wayoflife.org/language/languages.htm. In 1984, Way of Life began publishing O TIMOTHY MAGAZINE, a monthly publication with the aim of urging preachers to stand for the truth and to resist error. The title of O Timothy is taken from 1 Timothy 6:20, and it describes the burden of the magazine -- urging men in these last days to keep the faith once delivered to the saints and to avoid the error which is on every hand. One of the chief goals is to help protect churches from end-time apostasy through doctrinal preaching and carefully documented research. THE WAY OF LIFE WEB SITE was one of the first fundamental Baptist sites on the Internet. It was launched in 1993 and has grown rapidly ever since. Today there are roughly 3,000 books and articles available for anyone anywhere in the world with an Internet connection. The information is geared primarily to assist church leaders and missionaries. Thousands of people from around the world "visit" this site each year and glean from the information. Some people have been saved through the material. Many have left unscriptural churches and organizations and have joined sound New Testament congregations through the influence of our literature on the Internet. Many hundreds of preachers have thanked us for the help we have provided through well-researched material. The web site address is http://wayoflife.org/~dcloud/. The Way of Life web site contains information about the ministry, back issues of O Timothy magazine, an online Way of Life catalog, a sample of the Way of Life Encyclopedia of the Bible & Christianity, plus the following major features: (1) SUGGESTED INTERNET SITES FOR FUNDAMENTAL BAPTISTS. This resource is divided into 19 categories: Fundamentalist and Fundamental Baptist Sites, Independent Baptist Churches with Web Pages, Information on Promise Keepers, Online Versions of Fundamentalist and Fundamental Baptist Publications, Web Authoring and Maintenance/Internet Information, Discount Books and Software, Out-of-Print Books, Misc. Web Sites of Possible Interest, Bible Study Resources on the Internet, Book and Bible Rebinding, Travel Helps, Politics/Government/Crime, News Sources, Search Engines and Indexes, Home Schooling/Education/Children, Anti-Virus Information, Shareware/ Software, Internet Blocking Software, Correspondence & Internet Bible Training. In 1994 we published the first edition of the WAY OF LIFE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE BIBLE & CHRISTIANITY. This is the fruit of 20 years of research and is available in hard cover book and computer editions. The computer version 3.0 contains the equivalent of 800 pages of information, over 4,700 entries, and over 5,000 cross references. This is a complete dictionary of biblical terminology and also features many other areas of research not often covered in Bible reference volumes. Subjects include Bible versions, Denominations, Cults, Christian Movements, Typology, the Church, Social Issues and Practical Christian Living, Bible Prophecy, and Old English Terminology. The studies in this work are extremely practical, designed especially to be used by preachers, teachers, and parents. It is based strictly upon the Authorized Version. Many preachers have told us that apart from Strong's Concordance, the Way of Life Bible Encyclopedia is their favorite study tool. A missionary told us recently that if he could save only one study book out of his library, it would be our Encyclopedia. Another missionary told us that if could carry only three books to the mission field, they would be the Bible, a song book, and the Way of Life Encyclopedia. The computer edition of the Encyclopedia was developed by a special friend of our ministry, Mike Dixon, who worked for Microsoft. The hard cover book was printed by the Bethel Baptist Church in London, Ontario. The second edition of the Encyclopedia was published in January 1998. Since 1995 we have published MANY NEW HARDBOUND AND PERFECT BOUND BOOKS, including For Love of the Bible: The Battle for the King James Version and the Received Text from 1800 to Present, Rome and the Bible: Tracing the History of the Roman Catholic Church and Its Persecution of the Bible and of Bible Believers, Things Hard to Be Understood: A Handbook of Biblical Difficulties, Contemporary Christian Music Under the Spotlight, Evangelicals and Rome, Myths about the Modern Bible Versions, The Concise King James Bible Dictionary, Has the Southern Baptist Convention Been Rescued from Liberalism, Repentance Is More Than a Sinner's Prayer, Ideas for Evangelism, and Rock Music vs. the God of the Bible. In 2000 we published the FUNDAMENTAL BAPTIST CD-ROM LIBRARY. This 100-megabyte, 80,000-page computerized CD-ROM database, which features a powerful commercial search engine, is designed to work on both IBM and Macintosh computers. Composed of roughly 4,000 select books and articles, it is the largest fundamentalist research database available. It is a contemporary church issues research library, a Bible Encyclopedia, a preacherâs information database, a church directory, a Baptist history library, a Bible Version library, and much more. The vast majority of this information is unique to the Fundamental Baptist CD-ROM Library and cannot be obtained from any other source. The following are some of the features: (1) The WAY OF LIFE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE BIBLE & CHRISTIANITY. More than twenty years of research has gone into this one-of-a-kind reference tool. It is the only Bible dictionary/encyclopedia that is written by a Fundamental Baptist and based strictly upon the King James Bible. It is a complete dictionary of biblical terminology and also features many other areas of research not often covered in Bible reference volumes. It is extremely practical and useful for the ministry. Subjects include Bible versions, Denominations, Cults, Christian Movements, Typology, the Church, Social Issues and Practical Christian Living, Bible Prophecy, and Old English Terminology. This work does not correct the Authorized Version of the Bible, nor does it undermine the fundamental Baptist's doctrines and practices as many study tools do. The computer version 3.5 contains over 5,500 entries and 6,000 cross references.See the Way of Life online catalog for more information about Way of Life materials. |
