BRITISH COMMISSION PUNISHES CHRISTIANS FOR CONDEMNING HOMOSEXUALITY/ABORTION
June 13, 2000 (Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) -- The following is from The Fundamentalist Digest, May/June 2000 -- Britains Christian Channel was slapped with a 20,000 pound fine in part for its denunciation of gays and lesbians in an advertisement for a revival meeting by visiting U.S. evangelist Morris Cerullo. Among other things, the TV ad entitled Christian Warfare condemned homosexuality as an abomination and condemned Europes increasingly permissive abortion and divorce laws. Negative counts cited by the British Independent Television Commission included charges that the ad prejudice[d] respect for human dignity and that it violated the code against denigrating religious beliefs. NOTE FROM BRO. CLOUD: While we do not support the ministry of Charismatic evangelist Morris Cerullo, we do defend his right to preach against sin and to proclaim the Word of God as he sees it. The British commission in question has no divine right to penalize Christians for their preaching. |
