Britain’s Christian Channel was slapped with a 20,000 pound fine ‘in part for its denunciation of gays and lesbians’ in an advertisement for a revival meeting by visiting U.S. evangelist Morris Cerullo. Among other things, the TV ad entitled ‘Christian Warfare’ condemned homosexuality as an ‘abomination’ and ‘condemned Europe’s increasingly permissive abortion and divorce laws.’ Negative counts cited by the British Independent Television Commission included charges that the ad ‘prejudice[d] respect for human dignity’ and that it ‘violated the code against denigrating religious beliefs.’

While we do not support the ministry of Charismatic evangelist Morris Cerullo, we do defend his right to preach against sin and to proclaim the Word of God as he sees it. The British commission in question has no divine right to penalize Christians for their preaching.
